Set sail on a fantastical voyage through the world of pirates, mermaids, sea monsters and maritime legends. This year's CosmicCon celebrates ocean lore, favorite fandoms, and the spirit of adventure with a day of hands-on activities, demonstrations, cosplay, trivia, scavenger hunts, and more.

Library Lecture Series: "King of the Monsters: How Godzilla Conquered the World"

Celebrate seven decades of cinematic history with a look at the enduring legacy of Godzilla. Since his 1954 debut, the "King of Monsters" has appeared in dozens of films, evolving from a Japanese film sensation into a global cultural icon that continues to shape modern entertainment. Trace Godzilla's massive impact on the world of entertainment and his unique role in bridging the cinematic traditions of Japan and the United States. Presented as part of CosmicCon 2026: Sirens, Sailors, and Sea Monsters.

Free and open to the public, with refreshments provided.

About the Speaker
Dr. Laura Lee, faculty member in the College of Motion Picture Arts at Florida State University, teaches film and animation history, contemporary cinema, documentary film, and film aesthetics, with additional expertise in Japanese cinema, popular culture, and visual culture.

 "Cultura Tallahassee: Together, We Are More" Exhibition Call for Artists

Submissions accepted online through Sunday, August 30, at 11:59 p.m.

Artists of all ages and experience levels are invited to submit original artwork celebrating Hispanic culture, heritage, and history for "Cultura Tallahassee: Together, We Are More." Selected artwork will be displayed at the Leon County Main Library from September 15 through October 15, 2026, in celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month.
